If your Chinese is otherwise solid but something still sounds "off", measure words (量词, liàngcí) are usually the culprit. Here are the ten mistakes English speakers make most often — and the quick fix for each.
如果你的中文已经挺流利,可总觉得哪里"不对劲",多半是量词 (liàngcí) 在作怪。下面是最常见的十个错误——每个都附一句速记修正。
1. 一个书 → 一本书 (Books take 本, not 个)
You can't count a book with 个, the generic catch-all. Books take 本 (běn). Use 个 only when you genuinely don't know the right measure word — natives will forgive it, but 一本书 is what you actually want.
书不能用通用的"个"来数。书用本 (běn)。 只有当实在想不出正确量词时才退而用"个"——母语者会原谅,但你真正想要的是"一本书"。
2. 一只马 → 一匹马 (Horses take 匹, not 只)
Horses don't take 只, the "small animal" default. Horses take 匹 (pǐ). Curious why? Read why a horse is 一匹马.
马不用"只"——那是"小动物"的默认量词。马用匹 (pǐ)。 好奇为什么?去读为什么是"一匹马"。
3. 两只牛 → 两头牛 (Livestock take 头, not 只)
Big livestock aren't "small animals". Cows, pigs and elephants take 头 (tóu) — literally "counted by the head". Cats and dogs are the ones that take 只.
大型家畜不是"小动物"。牛、猪、大象用头 (tóu)——字面意思就是"按头数"。猫和狗才用"只"。
4. 三本裤子 → 三条裤子 (Pants take 条, not 本)
Because 裤子 (pants) is plural in English, learners reach for a "stack" measure word. But Chinese counts pants as one long object, so 三条裤子 means "three pairs of pants". Long things take 条 (tiáo).
因为"裤子"在英文里是复数,学习者常去抓一个"成堆"的量词。但中文把裤子当作一个长条物体,所以三条裤子意思是"三件(条状)裤子"。长条物用条 (tiáo)。
5. 一个鱼 → 一条鱼 (Fish take 条, not 个)
Fish are long. Fish and snakes take 条. 一条鱼 (a fish), 一条蛇 (a snake).
鱼是细长的。鱼和蛇用条。 一条鱼、一条蛇。
6. 一个衣服 → 一件衣服 (Clothes take 件, not 个)
Clothing is the biggest trap for many learners. 衣服, 衬衫 and 外套 all take 件 (jiàn). 一件衬衫 = one shirt.
衣服是很多学习者的头号陷阱。衣服、衬衫、外套都用件 (jiàn)。 一件衬衫 = 一件衬衫。
7. 一个花 → 一朵花 (Flowers take 朵, not 个)
Flowers, clouds and other "blooming" or rounded shapes take 朵 (duǒ): 一朵花 (a flower), 一朵云 (a cloud).
花、云等"绽放"或圆鼓鼓的形状用朵 (duǒ):一朵花、一朵云。
8. 一个纸 → 一张纸 (Flat things take 张, not 个)
Flat, sheet-like things take 张 (zhāng): 一张纸 (a sheet of paper), 一张桌子 (a table), 一张照片 (a photo). Think "flat rectangle".
扁平、像纸一样的东西用张 (zhāng):一张纸、一张桌子、一张照片。记住"扁平的方块"。
9. 两位人 → 两个人 (位 is for respectful people, not the word 人)
位 (wèi) is polite and pairs only with people you'd address respectfully — 一位老师 (a teacher), 一位客人 (a guest). But not with the word 人 itself. Everyday counting is 两个人 (two people). Save 位 for formal or courteous contexts.
"位" (wèi) 是敬辞,只配你尊称的人——一位老师、一位客人。但它不能和"人"字本身搭配。日常数人是"两个人"。把"位"留给正式或客气的场合。
10. 一个时间 → 一段时间 (Time takes 段, not 个)
时间 (time) doesn't take the generic 个 in this sense; 一段时间 means "a period of time". For where 个 does belong, open the full card for 个 (gè).
"时间"在这个意义上不用通用的"个";一段时间意思是"一段时期"。想看"个"究竟用在哪,打开个 (gè) 详情卡。
The pattern behind all ten(十项错误背后的规律)
Not one of these is truly random — every fix maps to a shape or category:
- small animal → 只 · large livestock → 头 · horse → 匹 · long → 条
- flat → 张 · bloom/round → 朵 · garment → 件 · book → 本
Once you learn the shape logic, the "irregular" measure words start to feel obvious. That's exactly what our comparison pages train: 个 / 位 / 名, 只 / 头 / 匹, 本 / 部 / 册 and more.
这些错误没有一个是真正随机的——每个修正都对应一个形状或类别:
- 小动物 → 只 · 大型家畜 → 头 · 马 → 匹 · 长条 → 条
- 扁平 → 张 · 绽放/圆形 → 朵 · 衣物 → 件 · 书 → 本
一旦你掌握了"形状逻辑",那些"不规则"量词就开始显得理所当然。这正是我们的对比页在训练的: 个 / 位 / 名、只 / 头 / 匹、本 / 部 / 册 等等。
